Campus Loyalty and Rewards Program

Sticky Post By Hangry On February 1, 2018

How can your school get their campus branded app to…

  1. Drive behavior;
  2. Keep students dining and purchasing ON campus;
  3. Use data to create a better student experience;
  4. Create a direct line of communication between students and auxiliary services?

The answer is: build a loyalty and rewards program.

Hangry has developed the most flexible campus loyalty and rewards program that is a must have add-on for your branded app. Through a loyalty and rewards program, your campus is able to use points to drive behavior based on your specific needs. Getting a campus branded app is the easy part, the difficult part is keeping students on the app. And that’ss where a loyalty Program comes into play. Through a loyalty program, you are able to reward students for using your app—but Hangry allows you to do it strategically so not only do the students get what they want; the school does too.

So how does this work?

Great Question. To begin, our unique loyalty program allows you to tie points across different auxiliary services. This would include dining, book store, event tickets, retail purchases, and so many more. This e-commerce perspective allows you to reward students while marketing on-campus merchandise and events.

How do students earn points?

Our loyalty and rewards program runs through the creation of challenges. Once a student completes a challenge, they level up. Every time they level up, they earn points at a faster rate.
Students can earn points by performing actions such as:

  • Ordering food
  • Opening messages
  • Referring a friend
  • Opening the app a consecutive number of days
  • Rating/reviewing items
  • Completing surveys

Further, the points students earn for those tasks will increase as their level increases. As they continue to use your branded app, the challenges will cycle and new challenges will be unlocked as they are completed.

How can you use this point system to your benefit?

This is our favourite question. Hangry gives you free reign to your rewards system—and you can offer whatever you’d like. But we suggest framing your rewards store based on what you’d like to accomplish. What might that be? Well… we have some suggestions.

Perhaps you’d like to…

  • Sell more meal plans? –> Offer them as a contest item in your rewards store
  • Drive higher margin items? –> Offer double the points if the students gets extra bacon for example
  • Want students ordering items earlier in the day? –> Give them extra points if they order before 10am
  • Want to shift traffic to specific restaurants? –> Offer them points if they order from that restaurant

Through the use of the rewards Store and loyalty program, you are able to keep students dining on campus and you are also able to intelligently understand student buying behavior. Through Hangry’s data analytics you are able to take buying information, and use this data to create a better student experience (ie. by offering what they want in your rewards store) and this is spread across all areas of auxiliary services. You use the loyalty program to market what is important.

The options are essentially endless. Through the Loyalty and Rewards Program you are able to influence behavior or drive a certain action. You are in control.

How does the Rewards Store Work?

Once again, you are in control of the rewards store and you decide what you would like to offer. You can fill your store with campus merchandise, meal plan dollars, event tickets, and even third party vendor donations. Third party vendors are a great way to save money on your rewards store, and constantly have exciting rewards and contests for your students. Contests can be for digital or even physical awards. Some examples include Amazon, Starbucks or Best Buy gift cards. We can’t speak enough about control. You control what the rewards look like, and what the conversation rate is.

Can you use the rewards store to increase student engagement and communication?

Absolutely. The best part of the rewards store is that it allows you to allocate points where you need it. If you’d like to improve your communication with the students then you can award them points for opening your messages, giving feedback through reviews and surveys, and rating your campus branded app.
